This Blu-ray set, released in August 2017, includes the four 1979-97 films starring Sigourney Weaver and the two Ridley Scott prequels from the 2010s.  The only one of these movies I had seen before diving into this set was Alien, the first film. The rest were first-time watches. I really enjoyed this collection of iconic spaceship films. We get a couple of unquestionably great movies. Three of the other four are fairly decent. The first two films alone are worth the price of admission.  Alien is one of the most memorable films I've ever seen. Who could ever forget that shocking scene when the creature explodes out of John Hurt's chest? Imagine seeing that in a dark theater in 1979 when you have no idea what's about to happen. Ridley Scott delivered an influential classic in both the science fiction and horror genres. It holds up extremely well. I loved it this time around. I went 31-for-31 in January -- 31 movies in 31 days. Nine of them were rewatches, which I wrote about here . The rest were movies I saw for the first time, most all of them streaming on Prime Video. I bought a subscription early in the month to see Abigail, which I had heard so much about. So while I was there, I decided to pick off as many watchlist entries as possible before my subscription expires I have a few more days and movies on my Prime watchlist. I'll finish that up soon and move on, back to Paramount+ and my still-growing disc collection. In the meantime, here are my first-watches from last month, ranked bottom to top: 22. I watched eight movies for the first time from Jan. 15-23. Here is how I rank them, from least favorite to favorite. 8. Dead End, 2003, directed by Jean-Baptiste Andrea and Fabrice Canepa, streamed on Prime Video, 0.5 star. Mercy, did I ever dislike this one. Opening scene is a family traveling in a car bickering and attacking each other over dumb shit. I hated all five of them from the top, and it continued for several minutes. I ended up spending about 82 minutes hate-watching this 85-minute film. And I spent a good 70 minutes of that trying to figure out what this film was trying to be before I figured out where it probably was going. Absolutely nothing here worked for me. Even the predictable ending, which did sort of tie everything together, missed the mark. I'm not going to waste any more time on this one. You shouldn't, either. 7.
